Should kids graduate high school after the 10th grade?
I am all for reforming the education system in the U.S. However, I’m not so sure I want my daughter to go to college at 16 years of age. I know 18 is only 2 years older, but a lot of maturation goes on in those 2 years. I am talking about this because New Hampshire is considering implementing a new battery of tests to be given to 10th graders to determine if they should graduate high school and head on to community or technical colleges.
The 10th graders will be allowed to take the tests as many times as needed until they pass. If they do not pass the tests, they can finish out the final 2 years of high school. Those who support this program say that it will say the schools a lot of money. Those who oppose this program say that it will divide our education system by socio-economic lines more so than it is now.
I’m just not sure about a test determining whether my child should go to a community college, technical college or 4 year school. As I said before, I also have concerns about sending my child to college at 16. I also wonder if this will affect the drop out rate?
