This is why I am not a Catholic anymore
When I was in high school I started falling off the Catholic train, and now I have the proof as to why. I started getting annoyed with the ‘do this or burn in hell’ aspect of the Catholic church. I also didn’t understand why I had to be in a room with a large amount of strangers to speak to my Lord through a conduit. That was the beginning of my journey away from Catholicism.
Today, I came across this article, where a catholic priest has announced that voting for Barack Obama will send you to hell. I was waiting to read the ‘do not pass go’ addition, but I didn’t see it. This is absolutely amazing to hear, and it’s the perfect bit of proof of why I am not a catholic anymore. Seriously, voting for health care for 42 million Americans and voting to get out of a stupid war where people are DYING, will send you to hell? Really??
How can anyone at this guy’s parish continue to see him with any kind of authority? This is the best bit of biblical fear-mongering I have seen in a while. I wonder if this priest realizes that people are being tortured because of the current president? I don’t see any notes going out to the parish about that, nor about the thousands of innocent people being killed in Iraq. I guess God is ok with the killing of grown innocent people? Where are the letters to the parish about that? Take a look at what this hypocrite said:
The Rev. Jay Scott Newman said in a letter distributed Sunday to parishioners at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville that they are putting their souls at risk if they take Holy Communion before doing penance for their vote.
“Our nation has chosen for its chief executive the most radical pro-abortion politician ever to serve in the United States Senate or to run for president,” Newman wrote, referring to Obama by his full name, including his middle name of Hussein.
“Voting for a pro-abortion politician when a plausible pro-life alternative exists constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil, and those Catholics who do so place themselves outside of the full communion of Christ’s Church and under the judgment of divine law. Persons in this condition should not receive Holy Communion until and unless they are reconciled to God in the Sacrament of Penance, lest they eat and drink their own condemnation.”
